BungyPump poles have a 20 cm elastic bungee built into the shaft. Walking with them, you press down against that bungee with every stride, which works the arms, back and core as well as the legs. The same bungee absorbs the shock that a rigid pole sends straight back up into the shoulders and elbows — so you get more work from a walk without more load on the joints.

That combination is why physiotherapists use them. Most ways of making a walk harder — a weighted vest, a faster pace, hills — also make it harder on the body. This one does not.

Below are four programs you can start from. All were developed with registered physiotherapist Rovena Westberg, and all are free to download and share.

Breast cancer rehabilitation

After surgery it matters that the muscles and tissue around the surgical area keep moving. This program gives a gentle workout where you set the intensity, alongside whatever your care team has already prescribed.

Fibromyalgia rehabilitation

Built around low-intensity work that starts below your current physical level and builds slowly. Research puts physical activity on a par with medical treatment for fibromyalgia — the difficulty is starting at a level you can sustain on a bad week as well as a good one.

Heart and lung program

Graded cardiovascular work for cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation. Physical activity strengthens the heart, improves oxygen uptake and builds stamina, so everyday tasks stop feeling draining.

Strength training without the gym

Seven resistance exercises using the poles themselves, plus warm-ups, stretches and a six-week starting program. For anyone who wants to build strength and has no interest whatsoever in joining a gym.

One pair through the whole progression

The Walkathlon has a moveable locking system. Locked, it behaves as a conventional rigid support pole. Unlocked, it gives 4 kg of bungee resistance, and a free upgrade to 6 kg is included in the box for when that becomes easy.

For rehabilitation that matters more than it sounds. You can begin with support alone, add resistance when you are ready, and drop back to rigid on a difficult week — without buying different poles at each stage. It also adjusts down to 100 cm, shorter than any other model in the range, so it fits smaller adults properly rather than approximately.

Every pole is made in Sweden, adjusts from 100–145 cm depending on model, and carries a two-year warranty. Free shipping across Australia and a seven-day satisfaction guarantee.
